I have been super infrequent on this blog that few people read anyway.

I did the 2020 program. For 6 months I went on a high protein diet - and I lost a bunch of weight and also acquired some really great habits.

The first was the consumption of protein

The second was exercise. I work out almost daily now. I bought a Nordic Track for my birthday and really love it ( not exercising)

Plus I have substituted a good habit for a unhealthy one. DH and mine Sunday date has changed into a long walk and then eating at home or ordering something super healthy like Pho ( and not eating the Rice noodles)

I meet a dietician every month for accountability

Despite all of these good changes and feeling stronger and more energetic than before - I have gained 7 pounds back

To be honest - I have not really stayed on the food plan as well as I should. I appear to also have become carb-sensitive. ie the eating of simpe carbs makes me gain weight ridiculously fast as well as feel excessively sluggish and tired

I want to shake things up a bit so I and DH are going back on one of our old diets that I have written about here. The 17 day diet which is not very different than the 2020 diet - except that it does not have protein shakes and protein bars ( which I am a bit sick of right now )

17 days is also exactly the time I have between now and going back to India for 4 weeks so its perfect for going back into a land where delicious carbs will surround me and I will allow myself to eat some of my favorite foods

Why am I writing here?

That is because I want to declare here that I intend to lose 5 pounds by January 29.

Declaring a goal is important because per a habits book I read recently I am "Obliger" when it comes to habits . For more on this read Gretchen Rubin's "Better than Before". One of the best books I have read on habits ( For more on Habits you can read Nudge, Switch, Why we Decide and or course the wonderful "Power of Habit")

Obligers respond readily to outer expectations, but struggle to meet inner expectations. In other words, they work hard not to let other people down, but they often let themselves down.

Obligers may find it difficult to form a habit, because often we undertake habits for our own benefit, and Obligers do things more easily for others than for themselves.

For Obligers, the key to forming habits is to create external accountability.
For me Temperence is much harder than Abstinence as it requires considerably more will power ie it takes enormous will power to just eat one square of chocolate and much lesser to eat none at all

I need to make bad habits harder. So for instance in the evening when DH and I sit on our recliners and watch TV we have a tendency to munch on something . Instead if i sit on the Love Sac - its impossible to eat as there is no place to put a plate or a cup

Finally food rituals =pleasure. So I need to find new rituals to look foward to

Today's rituals will be

Nordic track and watching Deborah Gruenfeld of Stanford lecture on Mastering Body Language in Group Settings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHciMDvgtBg)

Watching River

Drinking a Skinny Latte

How was Week 1?

Well it was FAR from perfect- but I had really good reason. R had to go to the hospital on Tuesday and Wednesday ( he is fine )
We ended up eating 2 days from the hospital cafetaria. I ate okay in terms of calories but not at all okay in terms of 17 day
I walked 6 of 7 days ( even in the hospital - thanks to the Fit Bit )
A slight amount of cheating on weekend as well as I lost the momentum
So I am 2 pounds down- which is not the best for 17 day
Tomorrow in a new week

I had a great first day
I am really motivated - I actually WANT To diet .
Sometimes when I am dieting - I don't really want to and so I make little excuses -a little cheating here - a little cheating there
But simply the fact that I have not been dieting AT ALL the past 2 months has given me back my ability to be motivated
Note to self: take breaks from dieting from time to time

Breakfast: Tea no sugar ( I really don't like Truvia and artificial sweeteners are best avoided)
Brunch : Trader Joe Chicken Sausage ( while this is not strictly 17 day as its not homemade - the ingredients are all completely like I would make them ) + steamed broccoli
Snacks 1+2 : grapes
Snack 3 : Low fat cottage cheese+ salsa
Dinner: omelet ( 2 eggs + 1/3 cup low fat cheese) + Steamed Cauliflower

I walked 2 miles on the treadmill
My fit bit registered a total of about 6500 steps instead of the 10,000 I am supposed to be taking. I want to do better on this - my excuse is that last night R was nusts and did not sleep at all - I could not sleep either ( do NOT watch Dexter before going to sleep - also on another note how sad with the way the season ended )
R was a real pest all day today as he was very tired
Cooked a lot today for the week ( curried chicken soup will be my lunch everyday )

Well you know what the name of this post means !
Back from vacation
A year of steadily gaining weight and the awareness that I must get on a program.
So Sunday I start the weightloss program again with my full on 17 day diet
I am planning to do it fully with no cheating
I mean to try some new recipes like the following

Cheesy stuffed chicken

4 chicken breasts
4 oz. Breaststone Live-active non-fat cottage cheese
Fresh Greens
1 tsp garlic, onion Pepper
1 tablespoon of Parmesan cheese

Pound chicken breasts and mix cottage cheese, onion and garlic powder and black pepper with Parmesan cheese. Add spinach and put about 3 tablespoons in center of pounded chicken breasts. . Bake for about 35-40 minutes on 400 degrees.
enjoy!

Green smoothie

1 orange, 5 strawberries and 2 large handfuls of spinac

So the first week and I am doing 4.4 pounds which I would say is VERY good

I had a stressful day today and ended up nibbling on a few bad things - but its okay

Breakfast : Glass of milk
Snack: Carrots
Snack: strawberry
Lunch : O Charley California Salad ( dressing on the side ) no cheese
bad things : several piece of chocolate , 5 spoons of yummy soup, 1 fry
Evening snack : 1.5 oranges , 0.5 apple
Evening snack 2 : 2 cheese sticks
Dinner : Omelette with cheese and asparagus

It turned out to be a day of multiple cheating!

The thing is I can either be a pillar of virtue or be pretty bad - because once I start to indulge a little - it goes on to being indulging a lot

I am taking a break for 1 full day - because Friday night we are invited to dinner to my friends house and she is going through a lot of trouble to make an authentic Indian meal
Ditto on Saturday ( another friend)
So I will start back up on Monday

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-8161936926692161302012-05-01T10:49:00.003-07:002012-05-01T10:49:58.642-07:00The 17 day Diet Day 6: 160.4

Well I have been on a plateau for three days now
But I still feel like I am doing well
I really need to shake up what I eat and add a few things to add variety
Today i was a little bored and I ended up eating a Salad - I forgot( in a Freudian way ) to ask them to leave the cheese and the tortilla Strips
Fiesta Chicken Chopped Salad
It was DELICIOUS
But I checked the calorie content after I returned and it was 800 calories ( the actual salad is 880 but I did not eat all of the dressing )
You really need to work the plan properly and that means eating in a very well planned way while eating out
I may eat boiled eggs and vegetables for dinner and also walk a lot

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-65470455048493543982012-04-28T11:08:00.001-07:002012-04-28T11:08:56.847-07:00The 17 day Diet :Day 4 ( weight unknown)I am at the cabin today where I do not have a weighing machine

I have eaten a little imperfectly today owing to my poor planning
Breakfast was my usual Skinny Latte( I love my Capresso so much that we bought one for the cabin as well )
DH and I have a custom of having Salad with Garbanzo beans on Saturdays. My FIL used to say it was lucky for wealth
Now I thought Garbanzo beans were not allowed on the 17 day diet but I saw on the Facebook page that it WAS ( 1/2 cup ) .
Now I don't know if you can do it on the Accelerate cycle but I did
I also had a little bit of fat free chicken sausage as the beans just did not feel enough
Anyway we will have fruit in the evening for snack and end the day with Roasted Asparagus/Cauliflower and eggs

If I can stay disciplined over the weekend - I will be on the good side of 160 - which will be awesome

The only trouble today was that i was feeling very weak - like a little light headed
I might add an additional egg white to my two egg omelette

Breakfast :Skinny Latte
Snack : Orange
Lunch Broccoli, red pepper, mushroom, chicken stir fry
Snack : Kiwi, 3 oz Greek fat free yogurt
2 cups green tea
All my cravings are gone ( though when one of my coworkers was talking about German Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream I did feel my mouth water )
Snack: I shrewdly put a bag of carrots in the car while DH and I drove to the cabin and so that is what we both ended up snacking on
Dinner: eggs and a cauliflower sir fry
After dinner : I had two oranges as I had a sweet tooth and was still feeling like eating after drinking two cups of Sleepy Time Tea Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-59147051271999310222012-04-27T04:46:00.000-07:002012-04-27T04:46:45.974-07:00The 17 day diet Day 2: 162.4

I was delighted to take my weight this morning

Already two pounds down !!

I think when you start the 17 day diet - because of the massive amount of unprocessed food - you rapidly lose a little water weight

Breakfast : 10 oz Glass of milk ( I know you are supposed to shake things up but I love this so much )
Snack 1 - red grapes + blueberry
Lunch : Omelette and Roasted Asparagus ( I went home for lunch as my Friend came home for lunch )
Snack 2 Frozen Strawberry
Evening Snack : ( was ravenous and ended up eating fruit again ) - 1/2 mango, 1/2 apple. 1 orange ( This is not good because on the 17 day diet you are not supposed to eat mango, no fruit after 2 pm and only 2 servings -
I LOVE fruit though )
Dinner : Broccoli ( I steamed this with Fresh ginger and sprinkled a little cheese on top ) + chicken stirfry ( chicken tenderloins sauteed in olive oil , onion, serrano pepper, and Trader Joe's Island Teriyaki Sauce )

I did not drink enough green tea or my probiotic . Just forgot :-(
There are two bad habits that I have that the 17 day diet gets me rid of

1. eating desert
2. popping things in my mouth randomly while working in he kitchen

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-26343748901758614472012-04-26T12:11:00.000-07:002012-04-27T04:46:34.321-07:00The 17 day diet Day 1: 164.4

As Promised I had decided that I would chronicle my feelings during the day

Today was not hard at all -

Just saying "Not even One" really works for me and I do not put any Starburst /Junior mint in my mouth

Moderation is fine for some people

Its not for me

Here is what I ate

Breakfast : Glass of milk ( 10 oz ) with Starbucks Via made in my Capresso- the best latte you will ever have ! Delish
Snack 1- Baby carrots
Snack 2: Strawberry
Lunch - date lunch out. but I ate Salad with Grilled chicken and fat free dressing on the side( delicious )
Snack3: Carrots and Tomates with Fat Free Greek yogurt Dip
Snack4 : Apple ( I was really hungry and though you are not supposed to eat fruit after 2 pm on the 17 day diet - I needed something to keep going till R went to bed
Dinner: Omelette ( i had some cheese in it but I measured out less hat a quarter cup ) + Pan roasted asparagus
After dinner: Instead of sweet I had a cup of tea ( Sleepy Time ) with no sugar
I remembered to have probiotic, and vitamin and drank 2 cups of green tea ( should have had 3 )

No feelings of deprivation at all

I also walked 1.2 miles outside

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-52324235566483749792012-04-25T11:01:00.003-07:002012-04-25T11:01:53.795-07:00The 17 day Diet : The Accelerate cycle

A couple of my friends have asked me about the 17 day diet

And the timing works perfectly as I am doing it all over again

The 17 day diet is an absolutely amazing plan

If you do it perfectly - it really works

The first cycle of 17 days is called Accelerate

This is where you take off the fat really fast

Here is what you eat :

In this phase you are eating as much as you want of veggies , lean protein.

You are limiting the quantity of dairy ( 2 cups daily ) fat ( 2 Tbsp daily ) and fruit ( 2 servings daily )

The full list is on the internet but here is the smaller list which is of things that I eat ( I dont like beef, Pork , fish )

Proteins
Ground Turkey
Chicken breasts
Tilapia
Eggs ( 2 max a day )

Vegetables
You can pretty much eat any vegetable ( except avocado, potatoes, peas, corn) but here is what is on the list ie the list of what I eat

Cauliflower
Cabbage
Broccoli
Asparagus
Spinach
Okra
Tomaties
Onions
Peppers
Celery
Cucumber
Green Beans
Lettuce
Mushroom
Carrots
Radishes

Fruits

Many fruits are starchy so on these 17 days things like banana and mango are not "allowed "
Fruits are also very calorific so we are limited to 2 servings
You are also supposed to eat your fruit servings before 2 am but this one is hard for me as I sometimes like to eat fruit for desert

Here is my list
Apples
Any berry
Oranges
Peaches
Plums
Red Grapes

Dairy

Low fat Acidophilus milk ( I drink 2% lactaid instead as I have a bit of lactose intolerance and take a probiotic )
Greek or any yogurt ( non fat )

What about condiments
Many condiments like marinara sauce, fat free sour cream, hot sauce, any dry spice are allowed

Where are the beans, oatmeal, cereal, rice and lentils ?

They are not allowed on the first cycle of the 17 day diet
Also no sugar

you must also eat daily

3 cups of green tea ( i drink the flavored Lipton - my favorite flavor is Black Currant and Vanilla )
a probiotic
multivitamin
you can also drink black coffee

Exercise
17 minutes every day

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-25645246431790918082012-04-25T10:34:00.000-07:002012-04-25T10:34:26.103-07:00Some kick butt inspiration

So I deliberately took a break for a few days because I have dieting fatigue
I want to restart my diet and I want to do it perfectly
Here is a picture from "missing brain mouth filter"
The language is kind of rude but the sentiment is great
Slowly but steadily getting back in track

What I am not well prepared for is :

1. eating out ( sometimes my order becomes a fatty order like yesterday's brothy chicken soup turned out to be full of bacon which I hate - but they replaced it with their other soup which is potato soup - a sinful combo of poto and cream that I was too weak to resist !!)
2. snacks in the office frig ( how do I keep forgetting my cheese sticks and my yogurt )
3. the willpower to resist chocolate while DH eats his in front of me ( why cant I just say no ?)
4. Eating too much fruit ( this last one I am not sure is the worst thing at this point )

On the plus side

I am exercising to the point of missing it when I am not doing it
I am overall eating very healthy unprocessed food
Even though yesterday was full of flaws here is what I ate

Breakfast : 10 oz glass of 2% milk
Snack : apple
Lunch : Soup and Salad, dressing on side ( the soup was the disaster ) a little bit of bread and 2 fries ( as I say I was ravenous when I got to lunch )
Snack: another apple
Snack : 2 string cheese
Evening snack : a banana and 2 oranges
Dinner 2 eggs omelette with 1/3 cup cheese, Roasted Asparagus and Roasted Corn ( no fat )
after dinner desert : a big piece of chocolate ( 170 cals )

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-57844882121549686622012-04-03T07:26:00.000-07:002012-04-03T07:26:26.820-07:00The Speed of Fat

I am just amazed at the speed with which I gained 3 pounds while on vacation
Back on track again this week with less carbs , mostly veggies and lean proteins
No eating bread in restaurants
Less cheese
3 cups of green tea daily
Lots of water
30 minutes exercise everyday

ABSOLUTELY NO JUNK FOOD AND CANDY

I know I can get rid of these three pounds that I gained in a week in one week - so that is the challenge for myself

My main obstacle is the 3 day weekend that is coming up with guests at home who will probably love Indian Food ( someone say Carbs?)
Atleast I will be in charge of the food and can make sure its low fat and healthy
Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-63269301746767021242012-03-04T07:52:00.001-08:002012-03-04T07:52:50.188-08:00The weekendI was trying to have a good day on Saturday and not hold myself to a perfect day
And for the most part I did
No chocolate at all
Did eat a few Chessmen and too many Mandarin Oranges on the salad ( was surprised to see how calorific they are )
Took a nice long walk
As well as spend a lot of time outside
Not 17 -day good
But Pretty good Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-59380930923946738502012-03-02T05:38:00.000-08:002012-03-02T05:38:36.283-08:00False Starts

Ahhhh - i have had so many false starts on the 17 day diet this week
Basically I do well till ;lunch time -
Then I have a moment of sweet-weakness
Then I give up
DH is being very very lackadaisical and that is a huge part of the reason why I cannot get on track
But I absolutely need to
I am trying to completely resist craving today

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-4430480206607501592012-02-27T16:48:00.001-08:002012-02-27T16:48:06.462-08:00Back on TrackSo I am back on track with my 17 day diet - I have started with two non-perfect days
Both days have been bad owing to the sugar ( I cannot resist mint lozenges and Starburst )
But they have still been pretty good - and I am going with it
I am restarting at 162
The joy of doing the 17 day diet is that I absolutely 100% sure know it works - the only trick is that one has to commit to it
DH is getting back on it and I am hoping that it will be like the September October time when we lost weight really rapidly
I am so delighted Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-47155928483431195562012-01-23T08:08:00.001-08:002012-01-23T08:08:14.779-08:00Back on 17 day

I am starting back on the 17 day diet
I put on 5 pounds over the past month ( and I kind of expected to as I went to India and ate and brought back lots of sweets )
Is it silly to be excited about starting your diet ?
I am though
I want to lose a total of 10 pounds which will put me right at where I want to be 152 !

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-4103447494665623822011-11-03T06:43:00.000-07:002011-11-03T06:43:02.531-07:00Lost 10 :-)

Well I completely forgot to update this blog

I thought I would do it after I had reached my goal completely ( 5 more pounds to go )

In August my husband and I decided that we needed to do something and do something fast

One of our friends recommended the 17 day diet

It a diet based on lean proteins, many vegetables and limited dairy and fruit

We went on it

It was almost horribly difficult that first week

But the pounds started to drop really fast

And a lot of our sugar craving - just went away

I have been traveling a lot these past 2 months and so I have been on a modified version of the diet and also cheating a little bit

But I have kept the weight off

I really need to lose the remaining 5 pounds as well

I have been on the weight plateau for several weeks now

So today I got on the messageboard and asked for some advice

They asked me to post a sample menu and so I copied from my journal - what I ate yesterday

BREAKFAST :: instant packet of grits and 1 weight watcher cheese wedge - 4 points

LUNCH :- Chick Fila 8 nuggets - 7 points , Side salad ( o points + 2 points for a few of the kernels + 2 points for 1 serving of the dressing )

SNACK 1
: cup of tea ( 1 point) , thomas 100 cal muffin ( 3) , cheese wedge( 1 point )

SNACK 2 :: chips - 2 points, two chessmen - 2 points

DINNER : Lentil soup + Rice + Cauliflower cooked with 1 tsp oil - 5
Desert - Blue Bunny Dreamsicle - 4

Coolwhip fat free 10 tbsp- 2 points

0 points - 8 strawberries, 2 cups blueberries

The suggestions I got were :

Reduce carbs,

Reduce Processed food

Increase protein,

Increase dairy

Increase oil

Increase Exercise ( 5-6 hours per week )

Don't eat any extra points

It was very helpful for me to write it down and share this as I was not aware of how much processed food I was eating !

Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-43059797525064907992011-06-22T11:46:00.000-07:002011-06-23T07:13:55.856-07:00Quick update
Just a quick update to say that I am seeing no movement on the scale at all
the numbers climbed back up to 162 and that is where they are staying
Last weekend I went to NYC and ate more carbs than I should have and my weight did not increase - which is the only silver lining
I am still doing weightwatchers points plus - really its a very easy and wonderful program to do- for life
The only thing is that I am not losing any weight :-(
Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-92067706382449233332011-05-24T05:43:00.001-07:002011-05-24T05:43:05.991-07:00Alarming Scale !
Today I stepped on the scale
And got a shock
Somehow between Friday and Tuesday
While following the program ( though I have been dipping into the bonus points and not exercising )
I have GAINED ALL THE WEIGHT BACK
Now when I started this - I had sworn that I would not be scale obsessed and lose these 10 pounds calmly
And now is the time to demostrate this
I did have Thai for lunch yesterday ( Tom Kha soup and Sushi ) but I noted the points religiously
and I am going to hope that its a sodium issue and drink lots of water and see how it goes
Floortime Lite Mamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07988840423227903784noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8728398688200049012.post-11366351206059806212011-05-20T11:41:00.000-07:002011-05-20T11:41:26.615-07:002 more pounds down !!!
I went to Weightwatchers and I am 2 more pounds down .

I am signed up for the whole summer( they have an excellent deal going on right now ) and I am really hoping I am able to lose another 6 pounds AND keep them off

I am trying very hard these days not to not say anything negative about my body

I think I spend all my 20's calling myself fat and thinking of myself as fat

And its only in my 30's that I am realising how important it is to be grateful and appreciative of your body

But I have to say I feel fat

This past week has been a week of excessive work .
DH had his tonsils out and so I have been doing some of the things he usually does - like getting R ready for school , grocery shopping , getting gas etc. And also all of laundry and cooking which are usually things we do together

And its EXHAUSTING

Plus I have been sleeping very poorly

AND work has been unusually intense

I am hoping things will get a little better this week and I will feel better

Sleep more and Exercise more
